What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored porcelain or composite resin layers fixed onto the front of your teeth that can correct teeth with gaps, that are stained, discolored, broken or chipped, crowded-in or crooked, oddly-shaped or badly-aligned.
Veneers are essentially a contact lens for the tooth or are sometimes likened to a false fingernail. They only cover the front surface of the tooth.
In some cases, a dental crown may be needed instead to give more strength and structure. Our dental veneers are custom-designed to fit over your natural teeth and suit your smile… a perfect fit. The veneers are bonded to your natural teeth with a composite resin that is not harmful to your natural teeth.
Composite Resin or Porcelain Veneers?
Composite resin veneers can be added to your existing teeth in one visit. Any chips or cracks to composite resin veneers can be easily repaired. They are also cheaper than porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers look natural, last longer, and are stain-resistant. However, if they crack or chip, the whole veneer must be replaced. Porcelain veneers are very durable and on average will last about 10 years, possibly much longer. It’s likely that composite veneers will need to be replaced much sooner than porcelain. Maintaining consistent and effective oral hygiene with twice-yearly visits to the dentist for a clean and check-up will assist in your veneers lasting longer.
